In accordance to the Centre For Climate Health Security, Fremington Medical Centre supports the worldwide declaration of a Climate Emergency.
The latest report dated December 2024 talks about the Health Effects and the Heat Summary which shares the health effects on our population. This is an important topic that needs all our co-operation.
We care about all of our patients and the planet we live on.
Our main targets for sustainability are:
- Introducing environmental sustainability into our organisation
- Improving our energy efficiency
- Reducing waste
- Promoting sustainable transport
- Reducing our use of paper
- Commitment to the National Green Impact Agenda
Introducing environmental sustainability into our organisation
- Meetings are held which include changes that have been made to make the practice more green and we regularly ask staff to feedback ideas for further improvement
- We work closely with our PCN to improve our goals of net zero
Improving our energy efficiency
- Radiators are turned down (when possible)
- Windows are not open whilst we have the heating turned on
- Lights and equipment is turned off at the end of the day
Reducing waste
- Only confidential waste is collected for shredding (all other paper is recycled)
- Recycling of other materials e.g. cardboard, printer toner cartridges and batteries
- Asking patients to recycle their used inhalers at local pharmacies
Promoting sustainable transport
- Encouraging patients and staff to use greener methods of transport when getting to/from the practice e.g. walking, cycling or using public transport
Reducing our use of paper
- Sending messages to patients via text and email (when possible)
- Printing double sided
- Online forms being used by patients on our website
Commitment to the National Green Impact Agenda
- We are commited to support the National Green Impact Agenda to reduce carbon emissions in line with the United Nations’ Sustainability Development Goals
