Lung Cancer Screening

In 2025, lung cancer screening in Devon (part of a targeted lung cancer screening program across England) will be rolled out, with invitations sent to those eligible based on age and smoking history.

The screening aims to identify lung cancer early through a lung health check, which includes a CT scan for eligible individuals. The Peninsula Cancer Alliance is coordinating the screening program across Devon, Cornwall, and the Isles of Scilly.

Key aspects of the program:

  • The program targets individuals aged between 55-74 who are current or former smokers, and registered with a GP practice
  • Eligible individuals will receive a letter, text or phone call from their GP practice or a local NHS service
  • The check includes a CT scan to identify potential issues early on
  • The screening aims to detect lung cancer early, when it is more treatable
  • Screening will take place at various locations across Devon, including mobile units
