Specsavers Barnstaple are introducing the private, primary eye care services which may help support GP practices and reduce the stress on local A&E departments.
They currently offer an Enhanced Optical Service (EOS), allowing them to provide same-day emergency eye appointments for patients presenting with a variety of ocular concerns. Using advanced hospital-grade diagnostic equipment, their optometrists are able to assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of eye conditions within primary care.
The private fee for this service is £45 (this includes all of their diagnostic equipment).
In addition, they have Dry Eye Specialists within the practice and are able to provide targeted management for dry eye disease and blepharitis, including ZEST treatment and ongoing care plans where appropriate.
Their aim is to support local healthcare services by managing suitable eye conditions within community optometry, helping patients avoid long waits in A&E while also reducing pressure on local GP practices.
Examples of conditions they may be able to assess include:
- Red or painful eyes
- Blurry Vision
- Diplopia
- Flashes and floaters
- Dry eye symptoms
- Minor eye infections
- Headaches
